Do any of you do this... wait until about two days before a holiday/special event/birthday to get busy making cards for it? I do... I think I need a calendar in my studio... perhaps that would be helpful...
I wish I'd been organized enough to get one of these out to all my blogland friends! This was done with Arches Textwove paper and various calligraphy brushes and pens... oh, and of course, I also used a heart shaped punch!
After some consideration, I decided this really could fit into the category of "Portion Control", Michelle Ward's GPP Street Team Crusade for this month... if you've never checked out the Crusades Michelle sponsors, what are you waiting for?!?!? Now, you may be asking yourself, "What does this valentine have to do with Portion Control?"... and rightly so, because it isn't really obvious. For me, the portion control part comes into play when I compare this card to most cards I make, which tend to be somewhat busy. This card is very restrained for me! Also, if you could've seen the sheet of paper I cut these hearts out of, you'd understand immediately. The sheet was absolute madness...madness I tell you!... so using a simple shape to punch out parts of that piece of madness is another version of portion control. And finally, imagine if that card were made with nine plain red hearts... it would be perfectly acceptable, but not nearly as interesting. The only thing I forgot to do was to add some glitter to this little valentine's day card... although, now that I think of it, glitter is like chocolate chip ice cream for me... it's pretty hard for me to practice portion control with either of those two things... so maybe it's for the best! :D
Beautiful !!!
Such a ideal for card.

I wanna be your friend and get a Valentine like that!
Seriously, these are really rockin. I love the script and the layering, combined with the clean edge of the heart and the white paper. Chaos + control = interesting artwork. Righteous!

Oh my, these are awesome hearts! Did you save the left-overs? Those could become art in some way too? I don't own a heart punch, but I think I need to go out make me a heart pattern and cut out some hearts for another portion control page... yes indeed! :-)
Thanks for the inspiration! I hearts!

What a beautiful piece!! What I do when I am too late (happens more often than no) is I save them for the nxt year in my card drwer. It was a problem for a bit because I would tear up my studio looking for the cards till a gave them their own spot!!
You should frame this piece!!
hugs!

Hi Kathy,
those hearts really look great!!! That is exactly why i love punches soooooo much and hearts, they are one of my fav shapes! I love it that the colors and the style of these hearts is the same, but yet so different in each heart. (i hope you understand what i mean, because it was hard to translate what i thought into English)
Thanks for sharing!

this is great Kathy - I'm sure if they arrive late, the sentiment is still the same. this reminds me of those serendipity squares, but the hearts are so cool!

I love the elegance & simplicity of these - something I strive for but don't often succeed at. Wonderful job.

Kathy - I'm totally with you about being behind on the calendar. You got me thinking I better start St. Pat's NOW. These heart cards are fab, a terrific example of portion control - thanks for sharing with the team! The scraps left on your table would be another way to exercise PC, the madness paper with a missing heart - I'm liking the idea of that too. xo

These are beautifully controlled beauties, my dear friend ! Just gorgeous !Love those heart !
I am exactly like you in terms of getting the stuff done at the last minute ! That is why even though I received you gorgeous K Valentine card on Friday(Thank you some much ! Love those non-traditional colors !), your card that I made is sitting on my desk right now waiting until tomorrow when I can get to the post office to send it off LATE ! But like you said, the intentions were good, right ? !Besides, I guess it is never too late to send some love to a friend, right ?
Nice job, Crusader !
