Greetings!
I'm pretty excited about March coming to a close... and while I hate to wish my life away, this has been one of the longest, toughest winters I can remember, and I'm pretty much ready for it to move on. Mind you, I love the snow, but since I didn't ski once this year, nor did I snowshoe this winter (why, I'm not really sure); it was a bit of a chore, dealing with all that frozen mess. I really am SO happy for spring this year!
This weekend I bought more rubber to carve, but did not get to it... instead I doodled with pen and ink, evidence of which is above in the newest banner. I'm going to get one (a banner design) I really, really like, one day; and then I'm going to stick with it... ummmm.... maybe! I like the idea of consistency so that returning visitors to the blog recognize the banner, but at the same time, I really like to play with the banner design... I guess only time will tell!
The letter play done in the newest banner was done with various inks in a warmup exercise. I think I've been really hampered in some ways by trying to execute only the most perfect letters (and no matter what, not meeting said expectations); while at the same time, loving the more free-form work I've seen others do. So my goal for myself at the drafting table, is to loosen up, make mistakes, and let the pen dance... oh, yeah, and to quit being so damned judgemental of what's happening as it happens!!! In other words, I'm going to practice suspending judgement... something I could certainly apply to other areas of my life as well.
I hope you have a wonderful day, the last day of March... it's opening day for the Detroit Tigers & I'm praying the rain will stop in time for the game! It'll be a nice, grey, chilly 55 degree day here, but hey; it's the end of March, right?!? Opening day... April is almost here... the crocus are up in my garden... life really is good.
Some of my best lettering comes form doodling.
Now if only I can figure out how to get the same letters when I want a good piece.
Love the doodles. Very freeing.

Your doodles are so much more than doodles, Kathy ! Beautiful. I love the looseness of your letters. I know what you mean about the winter coming to a close - it has been a hard one for so many of us ! Let's hope the spring has wonderful energy-building things in store !
Take care,
Kim
